  • FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS

    Introducing the foal to milk

    • Initially, on day one, warm milk slightly to encourage consumption.
    • Using a shallow plastic bowl, raise the bowl to the foal’s muzzle while they are sucking your finger.
    • Slowly remove your finger after they begin to drink.
    • Repeat until the foal is drinking from the bowl on their own.
    • Once the foal learns to drink from the bowls, put the milk into a small bucket and hang it securely on the wall at their shoulder height.
    • From this point forward, mix powder with tap (cool) water to limit over consumption.

Day 1 – Start of Feeding
On day one you should start with only half the recommended daily consumption from the chart below, increasing the amount of milk by 1/2 gallon (2 quarts) per day until the full recommended intake amount is reached. If the foal is still hungry, offer Foals First Starter & Creep pellets in separate feeder.
    Mixing Directions
Use enclosed cup. Stir recommended amounts of Foals First Milk Replacer Powder and recommended water amounts together until completely mixed.
    Daily Feeding Directions
To estimate how much milk the foal should consume each day, refer to the downloadable product information page at the top of the page. Example: A foal that will mature to 1,000 pounds will drink 4 gallons of milk per day. 2 gallons in the morning and 2 gallons in the evening.
